Program
What is KIDS CAN?
KIDS CAN is a program of the Albany Area Community Service Board, funded by the Department of Human Resources. KIDS CAN is committed to serving children and adolescents with severe emotional, mental, and/or behavioral problems and their families. The program provides services in Baker, Calhoun, Dougherty, Early, Lee, Miller, Terrell and Worth Counties. The goal of KIDS CAN is to provide comprehensive community based, no reject services to children, adolescents and their families. With adequate family support and community services, KIDS CAN will reduce out of home placements and hospital admissions, enabling the children to remain in their homes and communities.

KIDS CAN serves children between of 5 and 18 years old.
KIDS CAN recognizes parents as part of the treatment team and developing a formal partnership with parents is essential. KIDS CAN believes that in order to provide effective quality service to a child, services must also be provided to the family. A family focused, wraparound approach is the most valuable, with basic values being -

Services Offered by KIDS CAN

Out of Clinic Crisis Management
Provides mobile assessment to individuals in an active state of crisis. The purpose of the screening service is to rapidly respond, effectively screen, and provide early intervention to help those individuals who are in crisis. This assessment normally occurs in the hospital emergency room.

Community Support Individual
Community support services consist of rehabilitative, environmental support and targeted case management considered essential to assist the consumer in obtaining necessary services and are intended to restore an individual to the best possible functional level.

Group Counseling
A therapeutic group intervention or counseling provided by a credentialed clinician. (Examples: substance abuse, sexual offender, sexual abuse, anger management, etc.)

Individual Counseling
These services address issues such as symptom/behavior management, developmental or enhancement of specific problem solving skills and coping mechanisms, adaptive behaviors and interpersonal skills.

Family Counseling
This service provides systematic interactions between the staff and consumer’s family members which are directed toward the restoration, enhancement or maintenance of the identified consumer/family unit, which includes the support of the family. This service helps the family understand addiction, the steps necessary for recovery and the methods of intervention that can be used by the family.

Outpatient
The least intensive intervention provided in a community setting for regularly scheduled appointments for individual, group and family therapy. Expanded services.

Therapeutic Foster Home
Home based treatment with a clinical focus. Foster parents will receive special training and respite services.

Therapeutic Group Home
The group home will provide care in a home setting.

Physician Assessment and Care
Consumers will receive appropriate medical care that is prescribed by a psychiatrist.

Nursing Assessment and Health Services
This direct contact with the consumer is used to monitor, evaluate, assess, and/or carry out physicians’ orders regarding the physical and/or psychological problems of a consumer.

Transitional Group Home (Connections)
Give parents and consumers a calming down period from each other. Consumers are taught techniques to calm down before becoming out of control. Length of stay is up to 30 days.

Psychologicals
Licensed professional conducts psychological testing to assist in determining services needed and help determine the right level of care.
